Pence: “End the Bailouts At Home and Abroad”

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, gave the following statement today at a Republican Leadership press conference:

Good morning. If there was one message from primary elections across the country yesterday, it was this: the American people are tired of business as usual in Washington, D.C. Even the Democrat who prevailed in the special election in Pennsylvania ran against the agenda of this administration and against the agenda of this Democrat Congress. From Kentucky, to Utah a week back, the American people are expressing themselves in a very clear way and saying they’re tired of the borrowing, the spending, the takeovers and the bailouts.

Last week I, along with Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Jerry Lewis and others introduced the European Bailout Protection Act and today we will hold a Greek Forum at the Capitol Visitors Center, calling on this administration and this Congress to end the bailouts at home and abroad. The American people deserve to know that we’re bailing out Greece and if this administration has its way will provide tens of billions of dollars in loan guarantees to other European countries. Here’s hoping that this Congress and this administration heeds the voice of the American people and begins to focus on restoring our economy and restoring fiscal sanity by rejecting this pathway of borrowing and spending and bailouts.
