Boehner on the Radio: “We Can Win This Fight” to Stop Dems’ Gov’t Takeover of Health Care

From the office of House Republican Leader John Boehner:

During a national radio appearance yesterday afternoon on The Lars Larson Show, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said “we can win this fight” to stop Democrats’ costly government takeover of health care, but only if the American people stay engaged.  Boehner warned that Democrats in Washington would continue to look for “any and every way to shove this bill through,” regardless of the outcome in the Massachusetts special election.  Boehner also cited Democrats’ backroom deal with union bosses as further evidence of the need for open and transparent health care negotiations.

Following are brief excerpts from Boehner’s interview with Lars Larson:

BOEHNER SAYS “WE CAN WIN THIS FIGHT” TO STOP GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE:

“I think [Democrats] are looking for any and every way to shove this bill through Congress and to the President’s desk.  And even if Scott Brown wins, they’re going to try all kinds of tricks.  And the reason I’m calling in today is that this health care bill is far from over.  If we can keep the American people engaged in this fight, we can win this fight.”

BOEHNER OUTLINES DEMS’ “GIANT INFRASTRUCTURE” FOR GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE:

“Forget the public option and forget some of the other backroom deals, there’s still more than 100 new boards, commissions, mandates in this bill.  It’s a giant infrastructure being built in the government to get everything ready for their single-payer national health care system, which is what they want.”

BOEHNER ON DEMS’ BACKROOM DEAL WITH UNION BOSSES AND THE NEED FOR OPEN, TRANSPARENT HEALTH CARE NEGOTIATIONS:

“Well, the union bosses in Washington are nothing more than an arm of the Democratic Party and my guess is that they are getting a pretty good deal out of this and union members will be happy.  But I think most Americans look at this as a back-room deal – a little sneaky thing that happened – along with these other crazy deals that happened in the Senate.  And I’m still waiting for the President and  Nancy Pelosi to keep their promise of bringing real transparency to the process.  I haven’t seen any C-SPAN cameras in these rooms.  I haven’t been invited nor has any Republican been invited to be in these rooms and take part in these conversations.  So, it’s time to bring it all out in the open and let the American people see who’s getting these sweetheart deals and who’s getting the short-end of the stick.”
