Pence: “Where Are the Jobs?”

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement today after the White House announced federal contracts, totaling $16 billion, awarded under the so-called stimulus program have created less than 31,000 jobs:

The White House says it’s too early to draw any ‘conclusions,’ but the American people have rightly concluded that after borrowing a trillion dollars from future generations the so-called stimulus isn’t creating jobs. National unemployment has reached a 26 year high of 9.8 percent and more than three million workers have lost their jobs since the stimulus was signed. As the American people consider the disappointing results announced today, they are asking, ‘Where are the jobs?’

House Republicans will continue to urge the president and the Democrat leadership to work across the aisle on the immediate challenge facing America’s families – jobs. Let’s work together to pass fast acting tax relief for working families and small businesses and bring real fiscal discipline to Washington.
