Boehner on Democrats’ $500 Billion in Medicare Cuts: “Are You Kidding Me?”

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today highlighted the irony of House Democratic Leaders holding a press conference to talk about “protecting Medicare” while pushing legislation that would cut Medicare by $500 billion.  Boehner issued the following statement:

Once again today, Democrats are peddling talking points that are directly contradicted by their actual legislation.  They are holding a press conference to pat themselves on the back for ‘protecting’ Medicare, even though their government takeover of health care bill would cut seniors’ Medicare benefits by $500 billion.  Are you kidding me?

The American people are fed up with Washington politicians who say one thing and do another.  They have spoken loudly and clearly – they do not want the Democrats’ costly big government scheme.  The problem isn’t the Democrats’ talking points; the problem is the Democrats’ bill.  They need to knock off their misleading double-talk, scrap their government takeover, and start over on real, bipartisan reforms that lower costs and expand access to affordable health care for all Americans.
