New Bill Aims to Keep Guantanamo Prisoners Off U.S. Soil

Rep. John Shadegg (AZ-03) today released a statement criticizing President Obama's executive order to close Guatanamo Bay without a clear plan for the future of current prisoners.

Shadegg notes the many terrorists who may soon be brought to the U.S. for criminal trials, including Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four others involved in the 9/11 attacks on American soil.

"Detainees physically present in the United States, could apply for asylum and legal permanant residency," said Shadegg in a statement.

Shadegg has introduced H.R. 1238, which will probihit any detainee of Guantanomo Bay from entering the U.S. After a Guantanamo prisoner was released last year and returned to a life of terrorism against the United States, this bill is especially relevant as we near the closing of Guantanamo.
