S. 3397 is expected to be considered on the House floor on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, under a suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote to pass.  Sen. Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced S. 3397 on May 24, 2010, and it passed the Senate by unanimous consent on August 3, 2010.

S. 3397 would permit the Department of Justice (DOJ) to authorize long-term care facilities to dispose of certain controlled substances.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates implementing S. 3397 would have no significant effect on the amount of money DOJ spends on drug-control programs.
