Expressing support for designation of March as National Nutrition Month

H.Res. 274 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) on March 23, 2010.

H.Res. 274 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

• "Supports the designation of National Nutrition Month;
• "Supports the goals and ideals of National Nutrition Month;
• "Encourages local communities to raise awareness surrounding nutritional health;
• "Encourages awareness about diseases and death caused by lack of nutrition; and
• "Recognizes and salutes health care professionals such as registered dietitians, that spread the knowledge and importance of nutrition each day."

 

According to the resolution's findings, according to the American Dietetic Association, the National Nutrition Month campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
