Recognizing the commitment and efforts made by the Library of Congress to promote the joy of reading through the sponsorship of the National Book Festival

H.Res. 1646 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Daniel Lungren (R-CA) on September 22, 2010.

 

H.Res. 1646 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

• “Recognizes the commitment and efforts made by the Library of Congress to promote the joy of reading through the sponsorship of the National Book Festival;
• “Recognizes and emphasizes the important historic and ongoing role of the Library of Congress in organizing and running the National Book Festival; and
• “Encourages all Americans to celebrate the 10th National Book Festival, ‘A Decade of Words and Wonder’.”

According to the resolution’s findings, the first National Book Festival was held on September 8, 2001, and was organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush.
