H.Res. 1637 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) on September 16, 2010.

H.Res. 1637 would resolve that:

• “The House of Representatives supports the goals and ideals of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and
• “The House of Representatives recognizes Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day (HCADV Day) as an awareness-raising day to reach members of the health care community and educate them about the critical importance of assessing for domestic violence, as well as the long-term health implications of domestic violence and lifetime exposure to violence; and
• “It is the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress should continue to raise awareness of domestic violence in the United States and its devastating effects on families and communities, and support programs designed to end domestic violence.”
