H.Res. 1576 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, November 30, 2009, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) on July 29, 2009.

H.Res. 1576 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

  • “Recognizes the importance of honoring the Nation's parents of special needs children;
  • “Expresses its sense that a National Day of Recognition for Parents of Special Needs Children should be established to honor such parents; and
  • “Urges the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe such a day with appropriate ceremonies, programs, and activities.”

According to the resolution’s findings, it is appropriate that the Nation reserve a special day each year to celebrate and honor the parents of special needs children across the United States.
