H.Res. 1483 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) on June 28, 2010.
H.Res. 1483 would resolve that the House of Representatives recognizes the exemplary service and sacrifice of the soldiers of the 14th Armored Division of the United States Army, known as the Liberators, during World War II.
The Division is designated a "Liberating Unit" by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in recognition of its liberation of approximately 250,000 civilians of many nationalities and ethnicities from forced labor and concentration camps, including several large sub-camps of the Dachau concentration camp system.
