H.Res. 1312 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) on April 29, 2010.

H.Res. 1312 would resolve that the House of Representatives, "thanks and promotes the profession of teaching by encouraging students, parents, school administrators, and public officials to participate in teacher appreciation events during "National Teacher Appreciation Week"."

The purpose of "National Teacher Appreciation Week", held during May 3, 2010, through May 7, 2010, is to raise public awareness of the unquantifiable contributions of teachers and to promote greater respect and understanding for the teaching profession. Education and knowledge are the foundation of America's current and future strength.
