H.Res. 1186 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Betsy Markey (D-CO) on March 16, 2010.

H.Res. 1186 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

  • "Supports the designation of Distracted Driving Awareness Month;
  • "Encourages all people in the United States to consider the lives of others on the road and avoid distracted driving; and
  • "Respectfully requests the Clerk of the House to transmit a copy of this resolution to FocusDriven, an advocacy group for victims of motor vehicle crashes involving drivers using cell phones."

According to the resolution's findings, April would be an appropriate month to designate as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
