H.R. 6058 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Septemer 28, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. The legislation was introduced on July 30, 2010 by Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) and referred to the Committee on Financial Services and the Committee on Veterans Affairs.
This bill would direct the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to ensure that the housing assistance programs, including mortgage insurance and home loan programs, are accessible and address the particular needs of veterans and members of the Armed Forces, including those who have service-connected injuries, and survivors and dependents of veterans and members of the Armed Forces.
The Servicemen's Readjustment Act, approved by Congress in 1944, extended a variety of benefits to eligible veterans. Under the VA Loan Guarantee Program, the Department of Veterans Affairs is authorized to guarantee or insure home, farm, and business loans made to veterans by lending institutions.
