H.R. 5307 is expected to be considered on the House floor on Wednesday, September 23, 2010, under a suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage.  This legislation was introduced by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) on May 13, 2010. 

H.R. 5307 would amend the Tariff Act of 1930 with respect to aviation smuggling to extend its coverage of aircraft to ultralight aircraft.

This bill was introduced to address the increasing use of ultralight aircrafts that are being utilized for  smuggling drugs into the United State.  This bill would provide authorities with the ability to charge individuals using ultralight aircraft with additional charges related to those that are subject to airplanes and automobiles
