H.Con.Res. 294 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Thoma Perriello (D-VA) on June 30, 2010.

H.Con.Res. 294 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

  • “Commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway; and
  • “Acknowledges the historic and enduring scenic, recreational, and economic value of this unique national treasure.”

According to the resolution’s findings, on September 11, 1935, construction began on the first 12.5-mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Cumberland Knob in North Carolina.
