Recognizing the work and importance of special education teachers

H.Con.Res. 284 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Monday, June 28, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) on June 8, 2010.

H.Con.Res. 284 would resolve that the Congress:

• “Recognizes the amount of work it requires to be a special education teacher; and
• “Commends special education teachers for their sacrifice and dedication while providing the quality life skills to individuals with special needs.”

According to the resolution’s findings, special education teachers help to develop an individualized education program for every special education student based on the student's needs and abilities.
