H.Con.Res. 275 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Monday, July 26, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) on May 6, 2009.

H.Con.Res. 275 would resolve that the Congress:

  • “Supports the designation of Arts in Education Week;
  • “Calls on governors, mayors, and other elected officials from across the United States to issue proclamations to raise awareness of the value and importance of arts in education; and
  • “Encourages the President to issue a proclamation encouraging the people of the United States to observe such week with appropriate activities.”

According to the resolution’s findings, the week beginning on the second Sunday of September would be an appropriate week to designate as Arts in Education Week.
