H.Con.Res. 158 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) on June 25, 2009.

H.Con.Res. 158 would resolve that the Congress supports the designation of an Early Detection Month to enhance public awareness of screening for breast cancer and all other forms of cancer.

According to the resolution's findings, the most common types of cancer in the United States are nonmelanoma skin cancer, breast cancer in women, prostate cancer in men, lung cancer, and colorectal cancers; if detected early enough, over three-quarters of those who develop cancer could be saved.
