H.Res. 866 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Monday, November 2, 2009, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) September 23, 2009.
H.Res. 866 would resolve that the House of Representatives:
• "Recognizes `National Veterans Awareness Week';
• "Supports the designation of a `National Veterans History Project Week';
• "Calls on the people of the United States to interview at least one veteran in their families or communities according to guidelines provided by the Veterans History Project; and
• "Encourages local, State, and national organizations along with Federal, State, city and county governmental institutions to participate in support of the effort to document, preserve, and honor the service of American wartime veterans."
According to the resolution findings, the Veterans History Project was established by a unanimous vote of the United States Congress to collect and preserve the wartime stories of American veterans.
