The House is expected to consider H.Res. 556 on the House floor on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Rep. James Himes (D-CT) on June 17, 2009.

H.Res. 556 would recognize the 75th anniversary of the passage of the Federal Credit Union Act and the contributions of the federal credit union community that was created as a result of that legislation.

On June 26, 1934, President Franklin Roosevelt signed into law the Federal Credit Union Act, enabling credit unions to be organized under the charters approved by the federal government.
