H.Res. 534 is being considered under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-MD) June 11, 2009.

H.Res. 534 would resolve that the House of Representatives supports the goals and ideals of "National Children and Families Day."

According to the resolution findings, research shows that a supportive and encouraging family is critical to raising strong and resilient children.  The fourth Saturday of June is "National Children and Families Day", a day set aside to recognize the importance of children and families
