FLOOR SITUATION

H.Res. 530 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Monday, June 15, 2009, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. The resolution was introduced by Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-OH) on June 11, 2009, and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, which took no official action.
 
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

H.Res. 530 would resolve that the House of Representatives:

  • "Commends the purpose of the third annual Civil Rights Baseball Game; and
  • "Recognizes the historical significance of the location of the Civil Rights Baseball Game in Cincinnati, Ohio."

 
 
BACKGROUND

According to the resolution's findings, the third annual Civil Rights Baseball game will be held in Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark of June 20, 2009.  The Civil Rights game was created to honor everyone who fought for racial equality in the U.S. Cincinnati was home to the Negro League's Cincinnati Tigers from 1934 to 1937 and is also the home of the Ohio, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, which is was first opened in 2004.
