H.Res. 519 is being considered under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) on June 8, 2009.

H.Res. 519 resolves that the House of Representatives:

•  "Expresses its appreciation to the people and Government of Canada for their long history of friendship and cooperation with the people and Government of the United States; and

•  "Congratulates Canada as it celebrates its annual `Canada Day'."

 

According to the resolution's findings, July 1st of each year is officially celebrated in Canada as "Canada Day" in recognition of the anniversary of the establishment of the union of the British North American provinces in a federation called Canada.
