H.Res. 234 is being considered on the floor under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Representative Linda Sanchez (D-CA) on March 10, 2009.

H.Res. 234 resolves that the House of Representatives:

• "Honors and recognizes the contributions of veterans of the Armed Forces who served in Vietnam; and
  
• "encourages the people of the United States to observe ‘Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day' with appropriate ceremonies and activities that promote awareness of the contributions of veterans who served in Vietnam and the importance of helping Vietnam era veterans re-adjust to civilian life."
  

 

In the 110th Congress, the House passed similar legislation, H.Res. 1231, by voice vote on June 28, 2008. H.Res. 1231 also supported the goals and ideals of Vietnam Veterans Day and encouraged the American people to recognize such a day.
