H. R. 837 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, March 10, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This resolution was introduced by Representative Rangel (D-NY) on February 3, 2009.

H. R. 837 would designate the Federal building located at 799 United Nations Plaza in New York, New York, as the "Ronald H. Brown United States Mission to the United Nations Building."

Born on August 1, 1941, Ronald H. Brown was an American politician who served as the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.  And, under President Bill Clinton, Brown became the first African American to serve as Secretary of Commerce. Brown held the position from January 1993, until his death in an airplane crash while serving on trade mission to Croatia on April 3, 1996. In July, 1997, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) commissioned a new ship-with its home port in Brown's native Charleston, South Carolina-named for him in honor of his achievements.

According to a CBO estimate, enacting this legislation would have no significant impact on the federal budget and would not affect direct spending or revenues.
