H.R. 2498 is being considered under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. James L. Oberstar (D-MN) May 19, 2009.
H.R. 2498 would designate the Federal building located at 844 North Rush Street in Chicago, Illinois, as the "William O. Lipinski Federal Building."
William Oliver Lipinski was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from 1983 to 2005, representing a district in Chicago. While in the House, Lipinski served on the Transportation Committee; his district includes Midway Airport and also has more railroad crossings than any other district.
According to CBO, any costs related to new post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
