H.R. 1713 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK) March 25, 2009.
H.R. 1713 would designate the South Central Agricultural Research Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture in Lane, Oklahoma, and the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 310 North Perry Street in Bennington, Oklahoma, in honor of former Congressman Wesley `Wes' Watkins.
Wesley Wade "Wes" Watkins is a retired member of the United States House of Representatives; he represented Oklahoma's 3rd Congressional District for 14 years as a Democrat and then for six years as a Republican.
According to CBO, any costs related to new post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
